Happy Leap Day!!!

7th grade: We reviewed similar triangles as we prepare to move into scale factor and dilations on Monday. They will have a quiz next Friday over these topics.

8th grade: We are learning to graph equations in slope intercept form. They will have a quiz next Wednesday over this material.

Neither groups have homework. Have a great weekend!

February 28

7th grade finally got to conduct their shadow math experiment outside. We braved the cold weather to calculate the height of buildings, signs, trees, and poles. If they did not finish their calculations in class, they may have to finish them tonight for homework.

8th grade is working on graphing equations in slope-intercept form. They may have some practice problems tonight if they did not finish in class.

February 27

7th grade: We are still hoping for a warmer day to conduct our similar triangle experiment. Today we watched BrainPop videos about similar triangles. They do not have homework.

8th grade: We are working on graphing equations. The students have homework tonight about finding the slope of a line.

February 26

7th grade: The rain and clouds interfered with our outside experiment today. We will try again tomorrow. Instead, the 7th graders worked on some problem solving activities.

8th grade: We are currently working on graphing equations and finding the slope of those equations. They may have a small amount of homework tonight if they did not complete their assignment in class.

February 25

Wow! Today was our first day of term 3. I cannot believe we are two-thirds of the way through the school year. Since it was our first day in our new groups, we organized our portfolios and prepared for the new term.

7th grade also prepared for tomorrow's experiment with similar triangles. Remind your 7th grader to dress warm for tomorrow because we will be outside for most of the class.

8th grade began to learn about graphing equations.

Neither group has homework tonight.

February 22

7th grade: Similar triangles continue to be our focus. The only homework they may have is if they did not finish the "Shadow Math" activity we worked on in class.

8th grade: They students may have homework if they did not finish their classwork. It is a worksheet entitled "Why didn't the circus managers want their human cannonball to quit?" However, most of the students finished it in class.

February 21

7th grade continues to work on similiar triangles. They have a small amount of homework tonight if they did not finish it in class.

8th grade is working on solving on equations for one variable. No homework.

February 20

7th grade: We're still working on similar triangles. They do not have any homework tonight. Also, please check to see if you are capable of donating any of the supplies listed to the right.

8th grade: We are continuing to work on solving equations for a specific variable. This is a skill that will be critical as we progress into graphing equations. The 8th graders do have homework tonight. They need to complete pg. 79 worksheet.

February 19

7th grade is working on similar triangles. They have a small amount of homework tonight to reinforce the concepts we discussed in class today. Also, if you are able to donate any of the supplies for future projects, it would be greatly appreciated.

8th grade started a new concept today of solving an equation for a specific variable. They do not have homework tonight since we started this today.

REMINDER: ALL MAKE-UP WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY THURSDAY AT 9:00 AM.

February 13

8th graders are still working on logic puzzles. They have two puzzles to work on tonight for homework.

7th grade reviewed transformations today. We also began talking about congruent figures. They have homework tonight concerning congruent triangles.

EARLY DISMISSAL

Due to the early release, we mainly focused on organizing our portfolios in all of the classes.

February 11

7th grade: We are wrapping up our unit on constructions. We will start a new unit on dilations and similar triangles on Wednesday. We have several upcoming activities that require unique supplies. If you are able to donate any of these items, please help!!!

8th grade: We are working on logic puzzles. Challenge your reasoning skills to see how "logical" you are.

February 8

7th graders are still using their compasses and straightedges to construct images.

8th graders will begin a short challenge on Monday involving logic puzzles and creative problem solving.

Thursday, February 7, 2008

February 7

7th graders tested their construction skills today and will continue to use those skills in the challenges of the next few days.

8th graders are testing tomorrow over functions, set theory, and Venn Diagrams. Please remind your child to study tonight.

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

February 6

The 7th grade students will have a test tomorrow, Thursday over the constructions that we have learned thus far this year. Those include copying angles and line segments, bisecting angles and line segments, and constructing parallel and perpendicular lines.

The 8th grade students will have test on Friday over functions, set theory, and Venn Diagrams.

February 1, 2008

7th graders are still working on constructions. In ancient Greece, Plato would challenge his students to be able to copy or create specific images using only a compass and an unmarked straightedge. We have been trying to solve these challenges with our compasses and straightedges. The students can plan on a test next Thursday over this material.

8th graders are still working on functions. Ask your 8th grader what they know about functions. This is a complex topic that we have explored from many different angles. The students can plan on a test next Friday over this material.
